Global (adj):
pertaining to the whole world; worldwide; universal

Training in Indian classical dance, music, and philosophy taught me early in life to appreciate both the sensuous and the spiritual aspects of being. Coming to the U.S. for higher education and receiving my MBA from Mills College has empowered me as a woman and as a global citizen.

I believe that to be truly happy one must seek and find a way to serve. In the midst of my moral sense of duty to protect this fragile planet we call home, I have found my way.

City Lights Bookstore symbolizes to me the transformative power of thoughts and words. Working in marketing and communications for grassroots organizations has allowed me to contribute to the global conversation about the climate crisis, and has given me a purpose that is in harmony with my highest truths.

Interview Excerpts

Why do you care?

There is the general belief in taking care of one’s self, one’s family, and one’s community and at some point you must extend this to the place where you live and to the planet--that’s part of thinking. I want to understand myself as a part of the whole. I feel a sense of responsibility and I care. You have to act in ways keeping with your highest truth as you believe it.

How do you think of yourself?

I like to think of me as a spark, a change agent—a phoenix. But also a quark—obscure and humble. I don’t presume I have a great role to play in anything major or know how to make things better. But I am also improving myself and this will make things better for me and those around me. More basically, I think of myself as 2 elements: fire and water. And then also as form and flow especially when I practice my dance and music. You need a balance of both.
