Mindful (adj):
tending toward awareness and appreciation
What does conscious living mean? For me it starts with making choices in my daily life. I don’t own a dryer, I grow my own fruits and vegetables, and I buy biodegradable everything. With each action I take into consideration being gentle on the Earth. Simplicity is my gospel.
While earning my degree in energy management and design, I mentored high school students. They learned leadership and discovered their power to create a positive future by reducing greenhouse gas emissions, energy use, and costs.
I think of myself as a strong, sensitive, capable-of-anything girl. I feel most alive taking long walks through the forest and communing with animals. I pick apples for the horses. It makes them happy and it makes me happy. I draw inspiration remembering that no matter what, earth abides.

Interview Excerpts
How do you envision the future?
I’m kind of pessimistic. I don’t have a very positive picture of the future and that’s why I’m doing what I’m doing. I take comfort that matter what Humans, asteroids, or supervolcanoes do to it, the Earth will prevail. The good news is we have control of what we do to our environment, we have a choice to make, and that makes us very powerful.
How are you helping to get there?
I live simply. I make choices in my daily life like not having a dryer or a dishwasher. I turn out the lights when they’re not being used. I buy CFLs and biodegradable everything. I recycle. I grow my own food. I spread the word and bring things to people’s awareness. I buy local products and support local businesses. I donate money when I have the means. I am running my truck on Biodiesel!
